In 2017, donor Mike Schiff (Schiff Capital Group) approached Harmony Project with an incredible idea and generous offer: to send a group of students to New York City to see the Tony-award winning production, Dear Evan Hansen. Although a late-season blizzard sidelined the original trip scheduled in March 2018, the KIPP Columbus students were treated this April to their overnight adventure.
The students boarded their bus at 5am and pulled into Midtown Manhattan 11 hours later. They dropped their bags and rushed over to Bubba Gump Shrimp Company for dinner before freshening up and heading to the Music Box Theatre to see the show — which turned out to be the 1,000th show! After the show, they gave a quick performance outside the theatre and took in the sights, lights, and sounds of Times Square.
Harmony Project and KIPP Columbus are grateful for the lead gift from the Schiff family and additional support provided by the Scott Pickett family. The trip was an incredible success and students enjoyed every moment.
